TimetoPay ("we", "us") — operated by FivetoNine LLC — helps you scan grocery receipts, track prices over time, and build a smart shopping list. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. Your data is private to your account.
Information We Collect
- Account information — your email address, handled by our authentication provider (Clerk) when you create an account or sign in.
- Receipt data — the receipt photos you choose to scan, and the information extracted from them: store names, item names, prices, quantities, dates, and totals.
- App content you add — stores, delivery fees, shopping-list items, notes, and any manual edits you make.
We do not collect your contacts, precise location, or advertising identifiers, and we do not use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.
How We Use Your Information
- To extract items and prices from the receipts you scan.
- To track price history, surface the best store and price for items you buy, and build your shopping list.
- To keep your data associated with your account and available across your devices.
- To operate, secure, and improve the app.
Cookies & Local Storage
We use only strictly-necessary cookies and local storage — no advertising or third-party analytics cookies:
- Authentication cookies set by Clerk to keep you signed in.
- Local storage on your device to cache your data for offline use and remember in-app preferences.
Because these are essential to provide the service you request, they do not require consent. We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.
AI Processing of Receipts
When you scan a receipt, the image is sent to our AI provider (OpenAI) solely to read the text and return the items, prices, and store. We do not use your receipts to train AI models. Images are processed to provide the feature and are not shared for any other purpose.
How Your Information Is Shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that help us run the app, and only as needed to provide it:
- Clerk — account authentication and sign-in.
- OpenAI — reading the receipts you scan.
- Railway & Vercel — application and web hosting.
- Neon — managed PostgreSQL database hosting.
- Google Maps Geocoding — turning a home address you choose to enter into coordinates, so we can show how far away each store is. Only used if you add an address.
- Loops — sending account and reminder emails.
TimetoPay is free and has no paid tier, so there is nothing to bill you for and no payment data in the app. If you choose to make an optional donation, that happens on a page hosted by Stripe — your card details go to Stripe and never to us, and donating is not linked to your TimetoPay account.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored in a managed PostgreSQL database. Each record is tied to your account, and access is restricted to your authenticated session. We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, though no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Legal Bases for Processing (EEA/UK)
Where the GDPR applies, we process your personal data on these bases: performance of a contract (to provide the features you sign up for), legitimate interests (to secure, operate, and improve the service), consent (where required, e.g. optional reminder emails — which you can withdraw at any time), and legal obligation (to comply with applicable law).
Your Privacy Rights
You can exercise the following at any time:
- Access & portability — view and export your data (Analytics → "Download all data" produces a machine-readable file of your profile, stores, items, purchase history, and community posts).
- Rectification — edit your items, receipts, stores, and profile in the app.
- Erasure — delete individual records, or delete your entire account and all associated data from Account → "Delete my account".
- Restriction & objection — limit or object to certain processing.
- Withdraw consent — turn reminder emails off in the app or via the unsubscribe link in any reminder email.
If the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information — we do not sell or share your personal information, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. To make a request, email support@5to9shopping.com.
Data Retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your personal data — receipts, items, stores, purchase history, and community posts — is removed from our database and your authentication record is deleted from Clerk. Backups and provider logs may persist for a limited period before being overwritten. Anonymized, aggregate price information that cannot identify you may be retained to power the cross-store price catalog.
International Data Transfers
We and our service providers are based in the United States, so your information is processed there. Where data is transferred from the EEA, UK, or other regions, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) offered by those providers.
Children's Privacy
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
